Somatic Intelligence involves engaging in a therapeutic conversation with our own body.

Our thoughts and feelings are not experiences detached from our physical selves, yet at moments, we find ourselves disconnected from our inner experiences. The body is not merely a vessel we transport, nourish, occasionally exercise, and rest at night. Within the scope of somatic coaching, the body takes its place alongside the mind and emotional intelligence as a coequal and cooperative force for effecting change and influence.

Through the observation of our recurring patterns and limitations, we gain the capacity to liberate pent-up energy. This uncharted flow of life force lends its substantial support to a process of self-healing. It’s important to recognize that the body not only mirrors our psycho-emotional patterns but also plays a significant role in shaping and affecting them.

We come to realise how our system autonomously readjusts to establish a fresh internal equilibrium, one that resonates.

Integrating somatic intelligence practices into coaching or trauma therapy enables clients to release deeply ingrained bodily trauma. Once this trauma is released, the associated discomfort linked to traumatic memories no longer burdens the client. As a result, clients can progress without the barriers that block their path to achieving their goals and dreams, allowing for a reset of the nervous system.

Therapeutic process

The process involves a relaxed and friendly conversation with a trained practitioner, who attentively listens to the client’s health concerns or other challenges while guiding the focus towards their body. Our body communicates with us through the language of sensations. We cultivate the ability to listen to and observe these sensations within ourselves, which convey our symptoms, imbalances, well-being, and strengths.

By staying present with these sensations, we engage in a dialogue about our health with our system while also fine-tuning and clarifying our body’s perceptions. The awareness of sensations within our body, often referred to as the ‘felt sense,’ informs us about unconscious patterns and conditionings present in our physiology. It also reveals the inherent intelligence of our body’s health. The client is encouraged to maintain this awareness while developing a stable field of self-observation. As this field of observation stabilises, we can witness the body’s self-regulatory mechanism in action, bringing balance, restoration, and healing from within.
